During Breast Cancer Awareness month this October, GE Healthcare employees have something special planned. GE Healthcare has announced the second ‘Pink Ribbons’ campaign, which will be launched to raise awareness on the global fight against breast cancer.
An image is worth a thousand words, and GE Healthcare employees want to show their support by forming ‘Human Ribbons’, a visual way of showing their support and encouragement to those who are going through a difficult time.
The campaign will be building off last year’s success and will be running in over 40 locations worldwide, including new countries like Egypt, Venezuela and Ukraine. This week, the campaign is kickstarting in Spain and Ukraine . More information about the campaign can be found in GE Healthcare’s newsroom and Breast Cancer Mosaic site, a platform for breast cancer patients, survivors and family members to share their stories and write encouraging words to others who are in the same situation.
“We envision a day when cancer is no longer a deadly disease. Building on GE’s cancer commitment, we aim to bring the most promising cancer ideas to market, develop technologies that improve accuracy of diagnosis and enable more effective treatment decisions, and empower doctors and patients with better information,” said John Dineen, President and CEO of GE Healthcare.
Raising awareness around the world
The extremely successful #GetFit campaign and challenge raised awareness about staying healthy and engaging in exercise as a means to deter disease. GE’s HealthyShare Facebook Application launched earlier this year, allows users to share their healthy habits and encourage friends to do the same.
Last week, GE Healthcare hosted BCMTalks (Breast Cancer Month), which featured blogger and cancer survivor Nicole McLean. Her story about being a young breast cancer sufferer and how blogging became a welcome release throughout her journey was broadcasted live via the GE Healthcare Newsroom. “I started a blog to share my journey with my family and close friends so that everyone would feel included and everyone would be updated. What I didn’t know was that the notion or connecting with people would mean so much to me,” Nicole said when explaining why she started her blog.
GE’s social commitment in promoting the importance of early detection and diagnosis is reaching many, thanks to a series of in-country partnerships with governments, NGOs and local health advocacy partners that can help mobilize efforts on the ground in the regions.
