In the battle against belly fat, healthcare professionals may make a variety of diet, medical, and physical fitness recommendations. Increasingly, detailed body composition exams are part of the equation. Unveiled in 2011 on GE’s iDXA system, CoreScan* technology is designed to help physicians quickly and accurately quantify visceral adipose tissue (VAT), or visceral “belly” fat during body composition analysis. CoreScan helps give physicians and specialists immediate results that can help manage lifestyle interventions to benefit patients.

Recently, “The Doctors,” a daily US medical-advice television show reaching 2-3 million viewers, featured a segment highlighting GE’s CoreScan. Dr. Mary Oates, a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist in Santa Maria, CA, appears in the segment to discuss CoreScan’s clinical benefits with the show’s hosts and a patient.
